The assembly of the Union of European Leagues of Basketball, held today in Barcelona under the chairmanship of Eduardo Portela, has listened to the report of Jordi Bertomeu, President and CEO of Euroleague Basketball, on the format change and expansion of the Eurocup to 48 teams next season. Euroleague's Referees Director Costas Rigas has also informed the Leagues on the game rule changes that will go into effect in both the Turkish Airlines Euroleague and Eurocup competitions as of next season if approved by Euroleague Commercial Assets ( ECA ) Assembly.
The ULEB Assembly has also given the go-ahead to begin the process of replacing the Russian League PBL by the VTB United League as a member of the Union, a process in which the parties will continue to work in the coming months.
