 ULEB Cup

ULEB Cup with 24 teams

After closing the registration periods for the first edition of the ULEB Cup, the Union of European Basketball Leagues (ULEB) has decided to fix the number of participating teams at 24 instead of the initial 32. The change has been motivated exclusively by the desire to maintain a high level of competition. The ULEB has received several petitions from clubs which expressed their interest to join the competition, but respecting the high criteria, mainly sporting, established for this competition, the decision to fix the number of teams has been made.

The ULEB would like to show its gratitude to all the teams that sent their petitions of registration, supporting the new competition and their choosing of the ULEB as a sign of a well-organized and high sporting-level competition.

Due to the change of the number of teams, the competition system has also suffered modifications. Instead of 4 groups of 8 teams in the First Phase, there will be 4 groups of 6 teams. The first four teams of each group will advance to the Second Phase which will be eliminatory. In eighth-finals, quarter-finals and semifinals, the teams will play two games, home and away, while the final will be played as one single game, and will take place on April 29 in a place yet to be determined.

The draw for the ULEB Cup will be celebrated tomorrow Tuesday, July 16th, at 12:45 (CET) at the Olympic Stadium of Barcelona on Montjuic (press room).
