New 004 ULEB will be made up of 9 European countries After the meeting held in Paris yesterday, the ULEB has decided to admit the Belgian, British and Swiss professional leagues as new members. Poland will also be admitted when it had completed the reform of its bylaws. In this way, ULEB will be made up of 9 European countries. The European Basketball Leagues Union (ULEB), an organization presided over by the Spanish Eduardo Portela where the French (LNB), Italian (Lega), Greek (HEBA), Spanish (ACB) and Portuguese (LCB) Leagues are represented, held a meeting to discuss the admission of the Belgian, British, Swiss and Polish leagues in Paris yesterday. Once the protocolary formalities have been carried out, the ULEB has decided to approve the admission of the Belgian, British and Swiss leagues, while the Polish league will be automatically admitted when it had completed the reform of its bylaws that is going on. With this enlargement, the ULEB will represent 9 professional leagues. It is a very important step to comply with one of the basic objectives set by Eduardo Portela when he came to ULEB’s presidency back in 1998. The next stage of expansion might be headed for the North of Europe, after the first contacts established with countries as Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden or Finland. The new bylaws of the ULEB, which include the suggestions of FIBA and allow the increase of members, were also approved at the meeting held in Paris. Finally, the ULEB also decided to promote its presence in Internet.
